A few days ago, me and a friend did a story about the Zambian radio show Tikambe. “Tikambe” is Nyanja and means “Let’s talk”. The radio show is a youth-led programme focusing on sexual and reproductive health. The show is sponsored by several international donors such as Swedish Sida and BBC Media Action. Our story will be shown on Swedish TV within a couple of weeks

I just came back from a camping trip in Kafue National Park. Me and a few friends spent a couple of nights in the bush surrounded by Hippos, Elephants and Lions. We did three game drives and luckily enough we saw Leopards every time! This female had a cub and wasn’t very happy to see us. This is quite a relaxed young male. A very venomous tree […]
I covered Elefest, a wildlife conservation festival last weekend. It’s the first of its kind in Zambia and about a thousand people showed. It was organized by Game Rangers International (GRI). GRI is a non-profit Zambian NGO working alongside the Zambia Wildlife Authority to protect wildlife. Below is a selection of photos from the festival and you will find all photos here.
Last weekend was spent cruising Lake Kariba. Lake Kariba is the world’s largest man-made lake and reservoir by volume. It lies 1300 kilometers upstream from the Indian Ocean, along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The lake was filled between 1958 and 1963 following the completion of the Kariba Dam at its northeastern end, flooding the Kariba Gorge on the Zambezi River. Before the lake was filled, the existing vegetation was burned, creating a thick layer of fertile soil on land that […]
Misisi Compound in Lusaka, Zambia, has been identified as one of the five worst slums in Sub Saharan Africa. Due to a lack of resources there has been poor record keeping, but according to best estimates, there are between 80 and 90,000 people living in the area. The average life expectancy is around 32 years. HIV/AIDS remains a huge problem. A majority of the children living here have lost at least one parent to the disease. There is also a prevalence of […]
Today Edgar Lungu became Zambia’s sixth president. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka. The Zambian presidential election of 2015 was held on 20 January 2015, following the death of incumbent President Michael Sata. The elected President will serve the remainder of Sata’s five-year term until the next general election in 2016. According to the Electorial Commission of Zambia, Edgar Lungu won by a narrow majority of just 27,757 votes (1.66%) against the main opposition candidate, […]
This is from my second visit to the Lilayi Elephant Nursery which is situated in a 650 hectare Game Farm of Lilayi Lodge. The nursery is home to rescued elephant calves. Here they receive the dedicated care needed to get through the vital, vulnerable early months and years of rehabilitation before they are taken to the Kafue Release Facility and greater exposure to wild elephants and their new home in the Kafue National Park. The nursery is run by Game […]
